About Darcy's Bar & Restaurant

Darcy’s has been part of the Apsley Lock community since May 2022, bringing a taste of the Mediterranean to the heart of Hemel Hempstead.

Founded by local entrepreneur Dan Bavandi, the restaurant set out to create a place where friends, families, and colleagues could come together to enjoy good food, great company, and a beautiful waterside setting.

The journey began when Dan transformed the former Woody’s vegetarian restaurant into a lively and welcoming space serving Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

From the start, Darcy’s became known for flavour-packed plates, generous portions, and a relaxed atmosphere that made every visit feel like a holiday.

Popular favourites include seafood paella, tapas to share, hanging kebabs, grilled prawns, and of course the authentic pizzas, baked to perfection in Darcy’s stone oven and available to eat in or take away.

In September 2025, Darcy’s expanded into the unit next door, unveiling a luxurious new bar that adds another dimension to the dining experience.

Designed with no expense spared and decorated in Darcy’s signature pink theme, the bar quickly became a destination in its own right. Here, guests can enjoy premium draft beers, a hand-picked wine selection, and cocktails created by skilled mixologists.

The bar is also available for private hire, making it a popular choice for hen parties, baby showers, birthdays, and family celebrations.

What sets Darcy’s apart is not only the menu but also the location. With extensive outdoor seating overlooking the Grand Union Canal and the picturesque Apsley Marina, it’s one of the best places in Hertfordshire to relax with a drink or share a meal with friends.
